Kansas City historian and editor Monroe Dodd reached into the past to discuss Christmastime in Kansas City using the Museum’s collection of photos, clothing and decorations of Christmas past.
About Christmastime in Kansas City;
Christmastime in Kansas City has grown from humble beginnings in the 1820s to gaudy displays of commerce and culture. Public and private holiday celebrations have created memories for generations of Kansas Citians.
In the Museum’s photo collections, bright images of holiday decorations hanging over Petticoat Lane downtown share memory with photos of the Plaza Lights igniting the night sky and the gigantic Santa who presided over Gilham Park playground.
Dodd also presents family photos from 1913 as well as details of artifacts such as tree ornaments and children’s holiday costumes.
