Internships
Archives Intern I: Arrange and organize the George Fuller Green photograph collection of approximately 3,000 images, including creating subject headings and re-arranging the collection into those headings. Create a final inventory and database as well as convert the current “photo data sheet” into an electronic format. Scan photographs for use on the photo data sheets.
Building Operations Intern: Supports projects in the operations of the Building Operations department, including the functions of building maintenance, construction projects, internal communications, orientation and training, and scheduling. May develop Preventative Maintenance policies and Standard Operating Procedures. Organizes reports and analyzes data. Other management-level duties, including follow-up with others and participating in meetings.
Collections Intern: Catalogue and re-house the rail collection at Union Station.
Community Relations Intern (Kansas City Museum – KCM): Prepare and distribute public communications, prepare printed and electronic promotional material, research and plan marketing programs, event preparation and evaluation, data management.
Community Relations Graphics Intern (KCM): Developing graphics for approval and implementation. Designs, layouts, and prepares for programming collateral and advertising materials. Provides visual and text editing of print and electronic materials.
Costume/Textile Intern: Organize, catalogue, and research lace collection. Photograph document the collection. Journal processes. Restore lace pieces. Create reference files.
Curatorial Intern- Chocolate: Research the upcoming Chocolate exhibit and develop an interpretive plan and budget.
Curatorial Intern – KCM: Work with Museum and Collections staff to provide collections research and materials preparation for Museum public programs, write and edit collateral material supporting Museum programs, and assist in the development of educational support materials for exhibitions and other projects.
Education Department Intern: Supports projects and operations of the Science center, Science City, including the function of delivering educational programs and science demonstrations, identifying and exploring appropriate community / educational partners, writing science content, staffing Science City, and evaluating the overall visitor experience.
Facility Rental Intern: Develops market surveys, gathers information on best practices and market trends, identify possible customers.
Graphic Design and Website Intern: Assists with website updates using Admin tools or HTML functions, research, evaluate, and implement web and design promotional strategies, Employ social websites and other technology in marketing strategies, design promotional and way-finding materials.
Marketing Intern: Write news releases, e-communications, web site copy, newsletters, and event calendars, assist in development of marketing plans and strategies, assist in execution of marketing plans, coordinate execution of marketing surveys and reports, promotional lists, participate in community outreach activities and special projects.
Membership / Sales Intern: Researching customer base and best practices. Making recommendations for attractions programming, pricing structures, and promotions that further our mission.
Museum Arts Management Intern: Assist Director and Education Curator with daily management functions, assist Museum Administrative Assistant with implementation of Museum management actions, participate in scheduling and managing Museum office environment, and assist in preparing museum mailings and other correspondence for distribution.
Museum Education Intern: Assist in the development and research of hands-on family activities, schedule and manage outside performers and/or presenters, write and design printed materials for family events, plan, manage, and direct the logistics of family events, schedule and train event volunteers.
Security Console Intern: Learns the security function and performs security duties, including learning about the console / dispatch operation.
Internships are available on a competitive basis. Eligible candidates must provide a complete Internship Application and recommendations by faculty from the institution of origin.
