This photographic exhibit features images of the residence interior after it was first completed in 1910. The opulence of what was once known as “Kansas City’s one multi-million dollar house” is vivid in these reproduction images.
The once-elegant interiors were stripped clean by souvenir gatherers during the October 1934 estate auction, when most of the Long’s furnishings were sold to eager bidders. Reprinted newspaper accounts explain the sale of such artifacts as the rugs from the grand entry hall and the famous organ at the top of the Corinthian Hall stairs.
