World-Renowned Egyptian Archeologist To Deliver Rare Guest Lecture

KANSAS CITY, MO – May 6, 2014… Dr. Zahi Hawass, a world-renowned archeologist, often referred to as Egypt’s “Indiana Jones,” will present a public lecture on Wednesday June 11 at 6:30 p.m. at Union Station in the Regnier Extreme Screen Theater.  

Held in conjunction with North American Premier of The Discovery of King Tut currently on exhibit in the Bank of America Gallery at Union Station, the event will mark a rare visit by Dr. Hawass to Kansas City. Following his lecture, “Adventures in Archeology,” the floor will open for Q&A, followed by a special signing session for his book, Discovering Tutankhamen: From Howard Carter to DNA. Through a partnership between Premier Exhibitions, Inc. and Semmel Concerts GmbH (“Semmel”) The Discovery of King Tut has come to the United States after being seen by over 5 million people in 20 host countries throughout Europe since its opening in 2008.

Tickets go on sale to the public Tuesday, May 7, at 11:00 a.m. Lecture only tickets are $15 or $50 for the lecture, plus a copy of the extensive book and attendance at the signing session. Tickets are limited and may be purchased at the Union Station Ticket Office or online.

Dr. Hawass began his career as an inspector of antiquities and rose to the height of the profession in Egypt, becoming Secretary General of the Supreme Council of Antiquities, as well as the first Minister of State for Antiquities. A tireless advocate for archeological exploration and conservation of Egypt’s extraordinary ancient monuments, he is also the author of more than 150 scholarly articles and 40 scholarly and popular books.

Dr. Hawass has sparked interest about ancient Egypt through his many appearances in documentaries for the BBC, Discovery Channel, National Geographic, the History Channel, PBS, and The Learning Channel. National Geographic has produced a film on his life and work. Dr. Hawass received his PhD in 1987 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he studied as a Fulbright Fellow.
