Three charitable foundations have made gifts totaling $650,000 to Union Station’s expansion and bridge project.

The donations bring the station to within $800,000 of its $7.8 million fundraising goal.

The Gary Dickinson Family Charitable Foundation donated $250,000. The Sunderland Foundation donated $250,000. The Victor E. and Caroline E.

Construction is underway on a vehicular and pedestrian bridge from the west side of Union Station to the third level of the existing West Yards parking garage. The bridge will allow more direct access to the garage from Pershing Road as well as views of a new festival plaza and Science City expansion below.

The expansion will include an interactive outdoor exhibit at Science City based on a winning entry in the last Battle of the Brains competition. The project also will include a new entrance to the theater area and planetarium. The project relies on private funding and $2.25 million in state tax credits.
