Genghis Khan Has Invaded Kansas City’s Union Station

Discover the man behind the legend in the blockbuster exhibition experienced
by over two million people around the world

Kansas City, Mo. –  In the 13th century, the arrival of Genghis Khan, the Mongolian warrior-ruler, to a city would send people running in fear. Last week, over 300 special guests enthusiastically welcomed him to Kansas City and Union Station.  Genghis Khan: Bringing the Legend to Life, the latest world-class exhibition to open in the Bank of America Gallery at Union Station, transports guests around the globe and back eight centuries to witness how a once-feared leader, today serves as a model of innovation, tolerance and pride to a vast population of the world.

“I would like the people who come to this exhibition to learn about the Mongolian people, their lifestyle and change their usual misperception of Genghis Khan,” Yondon Otgonbayar, Mongolia’s Ambassador to the United States, said. “Mongolians have brought many things to civilization, for example eyeglass, pants, stirrups and hamburgers.

Genghis Khan was not only a brilliant military strategist known for ruthless practices, but also a leader known for fierce loyalty to his people, a pioneer for religious freedom and an innovator credited with many inventions still used today.

Presented in Kansas City for the first time, this world tour features nearly 300 spectacular objects, including rare and sophisticated weapons, costumes, jewels, ornaments, instruments and numerous other fascinating relics and elaborate artifacts presenting a more complete image of the legendary leader. With hundreds of artifacts from Genghis’s 13th century Empire, the historic exhibition is the largest such collection ever to tour.

As well, this exhibition tells the story of how a poor, fatherless, nomadic boy developed the skill and cunning to conquer half the world and establish the largest empire ever to exist.  At the same time, it serves as a cultural exchange between the East and West, as guests will discover an intriguing culture with a rich heritage that has spanned the globe.

“Union Station presents this exhibition in a format which employs rich visuals, color and lighting,” George Guastello, president and CEO, Union Station said. “In following with our tradition of excellence in “edutainment,” there are interactive components, live musical performances by Mongolian artists, and a calligraphy station which all add to the immersive experience.”

Visitors to the exhibition receive the identity of a civilian at the beginning of their journey. From warrior to spy to princess, they will follow this character’s life throughout the rise of the great Mongol Empire.
