That’s where Union Station’s got your back. As an authority on everything KC, we know a thing or two about how to have a good time. So keep reading to see our favorite things to do in the spring in Kansas City!

Things to get you outside.

The best part of spring in the midwest is shaking off the winter cold. Union Station is a hub for fun, arts, and culture year-round. But in the spring, you’ll start to hear more squeals of joy as families enjoy outdoor fun. Get some fresh air with these things to do in the spring in Kansas City!

Get the kids moving at Science City!

Union Station has many great indoor activities for kids and kids at heart. In the spring, simple machines at play is a great way to get your kids some fresh air and let out all that energy. Science City is a great way to let the kids run wild and they may just learn something while having a blast.

Every part of Simple Machines at Play is designed to get young bodies and brains working as kids learn basic physics on each feature. Just Plane Zippy evokes squeals of joy and teaches about inclined planes as kids race each other on a zip line.

For the climbers, Luckey Climber gives a great view of the rest of the other simple machines in the exhibit and is sure to burn off that pent-up energy accumulated over the winter.

All 8 parts of our Simple Machines at Play exhibit are a great way to tucker out even the most rambunctious child. So when they’re ready for a break, head to the Planetarium for a relaxing way to continue your day at Union Station. Our next suggestion includes even more thrills for kids and kids at heart.

Get an Adrenaline Rush at Worlds of Fun

Mark your calendars! Worlds of Fun opens up in March with more thrills than you can shake a churro at! The Zambezi Zinger, Mamba, Patriot, and more of Kansas City’s favorite thrill rides are sure to get the adrenaline levels high!

Whether you’re an adrenaline junkie or just want a relaxing day with the family, Worlds of Fun has something for everyone. With so much to do in one place, it can get pretty busy. So when you grab your tickets or season passes, make sure to pick up a fast lane pass to make the most out of your visit! After you get your adrenaline fix, our next recommendation is one of the best things to do in the spring in Kansas City to enjoy the natural beauty of the midwest.

Stop and Smell the Flowers at Powell Gardens

There’s nothing like that first long walk in the sunshine after being cooped up inside all winter. One of our favorite things to do in the spring in Kansas City is spend a relaxing Saturday or Sunday in the sun at Powell Gardens

With over 175 acres, events throughout the year, and some of the best places to take photos in Kansas City, it’s not hard to tell why this is one of the best ways to enjoy springtime in KC. The year kicks off in March. Whether you’re just taking a day trip to Kansas City, or you’re a proud local, Powell Gardens is a great way to enjoy the fresh air while taking in incredible views.

While these are all great things to do in the spring in Kansas City, the best part about warmer weather is patio season! With that in mind, here are the patios we’re most excited to enjoy this spring.

Jones BBQ

Jones has been featured in foodie magazines, the Netflix show Queer Eye, and the CBS Evening News for a reason. It looks as good as the Barbeque tastes. Mary and Deborah have BBQ in their blood. Since Leavy B. Jones Sr. started stoking the fires in 1970… something, Jones BBQ has been serving up classic KC barbeque. The sisters keep it fresh with twists every now and then but the patio makes every visit feel like an old-school cookout.

Like many things to do in the spring in Kansas City, Jones looks great on instagram. But there’s only one way to get the full experience. You can visit Jones Thursday through Saturday from 11-3. But make sure to get there early, they can sell out! Our final recommendation keeps the party going in the fresh air when the sun goes down.

Tin Roof

Even though they stay open during the colder months as well, rocking out at Tin Roof is one of the best things to do in the spring in Kansas City. Live bands, karaoke, and even trivia nights all at the backdrop of a warm spring night make this one of KC’s favorite outdoor venues. But for a special excuse to party in Westport, check out their Nashville Hits the Roof concert series.

Nashville Hits the Roof is one of the best things to do in the spring in Kansas City for two reasons. Number one, it’s free! Who doesn’t love a free concert? Number two, Tin Roof books future country greats over and over again. Greats like Luke Combs, Dierks Bentley, and Kacey Musgraves got their start at Tin Roof. So check it out! You might get to witness country gold in the making.
