B is for…
Brickman
Brickman is the company that pieces together Bricktionary. This team of talented and passionate professional artists are building the future of LEGO brick by brick. Ryan McNaught leads this team of master builders with decades of experience as one of only 21 current LEGO Certified Professionals in the world. With millions of bricks strewn across the globe, Brickman’s mission is to inspire wonder and excitement as they share the joy of the world’s favorite brick.
Books
Bricktionary is based on a brand new book from Brickman. This book shares the possibilities of building a more connected world, brick by brick. The Brickman team wrote Bricktionary to inspire people of all ages to get out of those bricks and build a little wonder around things we see every day. From the biggest builds to the smallest details, every sculpture is designed to build fun for all ages.
Barbeque
Union Station is proud to welcome Brickman as they make their Midwest US debut in Kansas City. Before we opened our latest exciting exhibit to the public, we went backstage to take a behind-the-scenes peek at Bricktionary. Here’s what it takes to build an exhibit of this magnitude:
How Everything Clicks Together
The team that brings Bricktionary to life works serious hours to inspire huge fun at Union Station. To share every sculpture and station, Simon Challenor, head of global exhibitions, shares how it comes together. From the build room to our hallowed halls, take in the amazing work from Brickman’s talented team.
Immediately, you’ll be drawn to take in a masterwork on display. Clocking in at 157,000 pieces, the Seattle Space Needle is one of the largest sculptures by brick count in this exhibit. As you round the first corner on your left, you can almost smell the giant flower sculpture. This flower alone has over 400 hours of labor, making it one of the most time-intensive models on display. Building models of this magnitude requires custom-built metal subframes, CAD programming, and thousands of tiny bricks. In addition to over 15 semi trucks full of LEGO, building fun is serious work for the artisans and logistical architects at Brickman. With over 200 sculptures throughout Bricktionary, there’s something for everyone to see and do in this expansive interactive exhibit.
Play and Display
Bricktionary is one of the most interactive exhibits Union Station has ever had. With one million bricks to play with Bricktionary includes 6 interactive stations in this exhibit. Throughout the stations, you can help build a mural, create an earthquake-proof tower, or plant a flower of your own in the garden! In total, there are 2.5 million bricks for play and display throughout Bricktionary.
