Union Station – Powered by a Lead Gift from BOK Financial – Pledges Portion of Science City Spring Break Ticket Sales to Help Build Meaningful Connections to Hispanic and Latino Communities through Designated Education Fund

With a focus on local, underserved Hispanic and Latino youth, BOK Financial makes lead gift and Science City pledges funds for the purpose of furthering STEM accessibility and creating pathways to lifelong success.  Entire community is invited to join in support.

KANSAS CITY, MO, Mar. 7, 2024 – Today, Union Station officials announced an initiative with BOK Financial to grow a designated fund for the purposes of expanding accessibility to Science City and the empowering world of STEM experiences, with a focus on the area’s underserved Hispanic and Latino youth.

“Our hearts continue to hurt for the victims and families impacted by the senseless tragedy at the end of the recent Championship Parade and Rally”, George Guastello, Union Station president and CEO, said.  “At the same time, Union Station is honored to translate that pain into action by contributing a portion of all Science City ticket sales during March — one of our busiest months — to the Station’s existing Ramón Murguía Hispanic Education Fund.  This is intended to encourage a swell of Science City Spring Break guests to feel a meaningful connection to this important part of our diverse community.”

BOK Financial is powering up this initiative with a generous lead gift and invites other individual, foundation, and corporate tax-deductible donations into this special fund to ensure our area youth – with a focus on underserved Hispanic and Latino – benefit for years to come by exposing young minds to Science City’s wide-open STEM adventures and opportunities, leading to life-long fascinations and pursuits.

“Now, more than ever, BOK Financial is proud to be the lead partner in this initiative by expanding accessibility to Union Station, especially for Hispanic and Latino youth.  As a hub of education and culture to Kansas City, we want to promote the welcoming atmosphere that has historically fostered profound connections throughout Kansas City,” said Kevin Kramer, BOK Financial market CEO.  “We invite our community to join BOK Financial by supporting this fund, and in turn, building more connections and inspiring inclusion. Plan your contribution and plan your next visit.”

With a “Welcome All” priority and posture, Union Station and Science City continue to find partners to help build strong bridges and unite for the benefit of all Kansas Citians such that education, inspiration, and empowerment through exposure to world-class content and experiences are within reach.

Tickets to Science City can be purchased at sciencecity.unionstation.org. Donations can be made at unionstation.org.
