The Science of Guinness World Records is now open at Union Station, and it’s nonstop family fun that makes it possible for anyone, anywhere, to be a record-breaker!
You’ll learn about amazing record-breakers and uncover the science behind their mesmerizing accomplishments as you explore six highly interactive zones, see amazing artifacts, and compete in fun challenges with friends and family. From memory skill and puzzle-solving challenges to testing speed, balance, reaction, and endurance, putting your dance moves to the test, shooting hoops, playing on the World’s Largest Pac-Man Arcade Game, and more! It’s interactive fun for all ages.
Create a unique profile and earn your place on the daily leaderboard. You’ll even get the chance to break a world record yourself!
The Science of Guinness World Records is presented at Union Station by Thrivent and supported by JE Dunn and the City of Kansas City, Missouri, Neighborhood Tourist Development Fund.

EXHIBITION HIGHLIGHTS
The Science of Guinness World Records exhibition makes it possible for anyone, anywhere to be a record-breaker! The exhibition engages visitors of all ages in real science experiences and record-breaking challenges. Through a series of six immersive interactive zones, inspirational stories and intriguing artifacts, you’ll learn about amazing record-breakers and learn more about yourself.
What’s inside?
Zone 1 – Intro Theatre & Locomotive: Guests will be immersed into an intro theatre where they will learn the history behind the creation of the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS book and more. Plus! Brilliant and bonus content includes an exclusive to Kansas City only, “Plane Loco” a spectacular steampunk locomotive engine built entirely out of matchsticks. Measuring 20 feet long, 9 feet high and 13 feet wide, this world record creation was built with over one million matchsticks and 35 gallons of wood glue. Prepare to be amazed!
Zone 2 – Ignite: The entrance introduces the main themes and topics of the exhibition. Through an interactive quiz, gain an understanding of the criteria set by GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS. Scientific methods help define what can or cannot be a record. Engaging and interactive record attempts inspire and ignite the desire to be a record-breaker!
Zone 3 – Explore: Explore intriguing GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS titles and learn about the amazing science and technology involved in setting them. Try for a highscore in one of the Attempt Arenas, or get the inside scoop on breaking records from a GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS adjudicator and a scientist
Zone 4 – Focus: Focus and experiment with tips and tricks used by memory record-breakers. Challenge yourself through hands-on interactives, video games, and large tactile puzzles.
Zone 5 – React: React and discover how age, type of stimulus, and perception can impact the speed of reaction. Experiment with tricks used by real record-breakers to improve your times at challenging interactives, and see your progress reflected on the leaderboard!
Zone 6 – Endure: Endure and learn about the physical requirements of record-breaking. Learn about muscle contractions and fatigue, discover if you are better at the balance boards or the hang bar, and walk away with a better understanding of your body’s endurance performance and how to improve it
Zone 7 – Be Inspired: Exclusive to Kansas City, guests will be invited into the world of EXTREME MINIATURES as they marvel at the world’s tiniest handmade sculptures…that fit the eye of a needle. Then, take a moment to chill in two different video nooks where you can watch 2024 GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title holders as well as check out 70 years’ worth of published GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS books.

On May 9th Union Station, Thrivent, and HappyBottoms partnered to construct the worlds largest diaper cake, with over 87,000 diapers! The diapers were then taken by HappyBottoms and distributed to needy families throughout the Kansas City metro.
