CPKC‘s Final Spike Steam Tour is making a special stop at Union Station, featuring the iconic 2816 locomotive also known as “The Empress.”
Join us for a free, family-friendly event on May 18th featuring, the nearly century-old Empress, free showing in the Regnier Extreme Screen Theatre, and train-themed activities inside of Science City.

Learn more about the history of both CPKC and the Empress train.

12:00 PM to 5:00 PM – Puffer Belly Express Rides

Enjoy a free ride on the Puffer Belly Express train, a quarter scale replica of a steam locomotive.

Watch a free showing of Rocky Mountain Express, featuring the Empress locomotive, on the largest screen in Kansas City.

Inside Science City

10:00 AM to 4:30 PM – Trains of the Future

Location: Periodic Table – Explore how magnets will make the future of transportation easier and much faster than current day systems.

10:00 AM to 4:30 PM – Train Track Stamp Art

Location: Creative Corner – Use crayons and stamps to make artwork featuring different train cars.

10:00 AM to 5:00 PM – Block Prints

Location: Maker Studio – Learn about block printing as you roll out ink and use a linocut stamp to make your very own print.

11:00 AM and 2:00 PM – Story Time

Location: PNC Learning Lab – Early learners will hear the story “Locomotive” read by Conductor Erin.

Plus don’t forget to visit All Aboard, a space within Science City that’s 100% themed around trains and transportation with a life size train display for children of all ages!
