Katie Hanson – Gateways through Genomics
Advances in technology have made the human genome more accessible than ever before and is steering us towards more personalized medicine. But what are we actually talking about when we refer to the genome and genomics? We will discuss different areas of genomics, explore different approaches we can use to research these fields, including examples from the research career of one scientist, and the impact genomic research can have on medicine.
Dr. Katie Hanson is a Post Doctoral Research Scholar and part of Children’s Mercy Research Institute’s Genomic Medicine Center. She joined the University of Kansas’ Department of Molecular Biosciences graduate program where she earned her PhD in Molecular, Cellular and Developmental Biology in May of 2025.
During her time at Children’s Mercy, she has worked on a variety of diseases/medical conditions including rare adverse drug reactions, asthma and chronic stress in the pediatric black community and male infertility and recurrent pregnancy loss with collaborators from KU Medical Center.
