2022 marks the 6th year of Trombone Christmas Kansas City held in the Haverty Family Yards Outdoor Space at historic Union Station!

The Trombone Christmas Kansas City Concert was founded by Dr. Frank Perez and Mr. William Biggs in 2017 and is presented to promote and encourage the fellowship and musicianship of trombone players through the performance of Christmas Music.  Participation in the concert is open to trombone players of all ages and experience levels.  Whether you are a beginner or a seasoned trombonist, we hope that you will join us!

Conductors:

Dr. Frank Perez serves as the director of bands at Baker University in Baldwin City, Kansas, where he conducts the Baker Symphonic Winds, Jazz Ensemble, Pep Band, and teaches applied trombone, euphonium and tuba lessons. Previous positions include director of bands at Graceland University, where he held the prestigious Vredenburg Endowed Chair, graduate teaching assistant at the University of Kansas, and director of bands at Ganesha High School in Pomona, California.

Dr. Perez maintains an active national and international guest-conducting schedule.  He has guest conducted conference honor bands in Iowa, Missouri, and Kansas. In 2016, he served as the principal conductor for the Kansas State Lions Band. Dr. Perez has served as guest conductor and artist in residence for the Bénemerita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, in Puebla, México. Dr. Perez is an active as a freelance trombonist, having performed with ensembles such as the La Jolla Symphony, L.A. Guild Opera, De Soto Brass Band, Des Moines Big Band, and is a founding member of the KC Bone Connection Trombone Quartet.  He currently serves as the principal trombonist for the Freestate Brass Band.

Dr. Perez holds bachelor degrees in trombone performance and music education, and a master of music education degree from the University of Southern California Thornton School of Music. He earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Wind Band Conducting from the University of Kansas School of Music and has been honored by Phi Kappa Phi and Pi Kappa Lambda honor fraternities, Blue Key National Honor Society, Who’s Who Among American Teachers, and most recently by the Phi Beta Mu International School Band Director Fraternity.


Will Biggs is active as a clinician, performer, and educator.  He currently serves as the Director of Bands at Gardner–Edgerton High School where he has taught for the past fourteen years.  Additionally, he serves as the Director of Instrumental Music for the Gardner–Edgerton school district. He has served as an adjunct faculty member for Emporia State University teaching the low-brass studio and music theory to non-music majors. Mr. Biggs also serves as a clinician in the Kansas area for multiple middle school band festivals and has taught masterclasses in trombone for Emporia State University, Allen County Community College, and many area high schools.  Mr. Biggs is a founding member of the KC Bone Connection Trombone Quartet, member of the Free State Brass Band, De Soto Brass Band and co-conductor of the Shawnee Concert Band.

Mr. Biggs holds a Master of Music in Trombone Performance degree from Emporia State University and a Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Kansas. He can be heard professionally on two recordings – The Labyrinth: featuring the works of Dr. Gary Ziek and with the Mission Blues Band on their recording Don’t Live here Anymore.
