Costumed Characters

Union Station’s policy regarding costumed characters inside Union Station . . .

• Union Station does not allow costumed characters or costumes to be worn by anyone 14+ in age in our public spaces without advance approval.

• Advance approval should be requested through Union Station’s Marketing Dept at [email protected].

• Costumed characters (including Santa’s) who are hired for private events being held in private rental spaces at Union Station are welcome so long as they do not linger in public spaces in which they could invite public interaction.

• Without advance approval, anyone wearing a costume that would invite public interaction (intentional or otherwise), may be asked to remove the costume or elements of it (assuming street clothes are underneath or are easily available) or leave Union Station’s public spaces.

• Public spaces include anywhere inside or across our campus that our public guests have regular access, including ALL of our attractions, restaurants, retail, restrooms, hallways, balconies, seasonal events, parking garages, and open areas.

• Union Station’s definition of a “Costume” includes any garment, makeup, embellishment, prop or illusion that intentionally or otherwise could cause confusion as to the true identity of the person wearing said costume.  Further, costume masks that cover all or a substantial part of the face are not allowed for any age.  It is fully at the discretion of Union Station to define a “costume” on the spot and at the moment we might encounter the person wearing it.

• In the occasional circumstance that Union Station makes an exception to this policy – i.e. during a Union Station sanctioned New Year’s Eve event, Exhibition or Costume Party – the exception will be communicated clearly via our social media channels and/or our event landing page and/or within an event invitation.
